Knitted Tunip the Vegimal

Materials:
Blue/green wool for tail
Yellow wool for head
Green wool for stalk
White wool for nose
Either black wool or safety eyes for the eyes
DPNs a size smaller than recommended for wool – I used 3mm needles and DK wool for my Tunip
Body (Make 1)
With blue, CO 3 sts, split onto three needles.
1 – Inc every st (6 sts)
2 (and every even round) – K
3 – K to last st on needle, inc last st – do this on each needle, so three times (9sts)
Repeat 3 and 4 to 36 sts
Work round 3 once more, change to yellow, K 1 row
Work round 3 and 4 in yellow to 48 sts
K 4 more rounds
5 – K(6) sts, K2tog, K(6) sts K2tog – do this on each needle, so three times (42sts)
6 – K
Repeat round 5 and 6, decreasing the numbers in brackets by 1 each time you repeat round 5, until 18 sts remain.
Stuff firmly, and add safety eyes at this point if being used. Use photo for reference.
Change to Green, k 1 round.
Next round: *K1, K2tog* across round (12sts)
K a further 7 rounds
Work 1st 3 sts as I-cord (leaving the remaining 9 on spare needles) and I-cord 10 rounds.
Leaf – Working 3 sts flat, inc 1, K1, inc 1.
Next row: Inc 1, K3, Inc 1

Next row: K3tog, cut yarn and pull through.
For the second stalk, take the next 2 sts of the remaining 9, and the last st (so three in all) work 6 rounds I-cord then leaf.
For the third stalk, take the 1st st of the remaining six, and the last 2 (s three in all) work 3 rounds I-cord then leaf.
For the last stalk, take the remaining three sts, I-cord 1 round then work leaf.
“Arm” Fins (Make 2)
With blue, CO 10sts, join in the round.
Work 3 rounds
Next round: Dec 1, K(3), Dec 1, K(3)
K 1 round
Repeat last two rounds, decreasing the number of sts in the brackets by 1 each repeat to 4 sts
Next round: K2tog, K2tog
Next round: K2tog, cut yarn and pull through
“Leg” Fins (Make 2)
With blue, CO 12sts, join in the round.
Work 7 rounds
Next round: Dec 1, K(4), Dec 1, K(4)
K 1 round
Repeat last two rounds, decreasing the number of sts in the brackets by 1 each repeat to 4 sts
Next round: K2tog, K2tog
Next round: K2tog, cut yarn and pull through
Making up
Lightly stuff limbs then sew to body, using photo as a reference. Tuck in all loose threads.
Sew on snout by using white and blue wool, use long sts to obtain a flat and more solid looking face.
