Direction
Cast on 90 st with a circular needle. Join round and knit for an inch. Place a stitch marker at the beginning of a round.
Next round: *yo, k2tog; repeat from * to end of round.
Knit for another inch. This is the end of the hat brim. It will be folded in half and sewed at the end.
Begin body hat pattern as follow;
Rnd 1: Knit.
Rnd 2: *yo, k2, pass the yo over the 2 knit stitches; repeat from * to end of round.
Repeat these 2 rounds until the body hat is approximately 4.5 inches tall ending with rnd 1. (don’t measure the brim).
Then begin decreasing to form a crown of a hat as follows; Change to dpn to work the decreases.
Rnd 1: (k11, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k9, k2tog, k1, k2tog) 3 times - 78 sts total.
Rnd 2-4: continue working the hat body pattern even.
Rnd 5: (k9, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k7, k2tog, k1, k2tog) 3 times - 66 sts.
Rnd 6: work the hat body pattern even.
Rnd 7: (k7, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k5, k2tog, k1, k2tog) 3 times - 54 sts.
Rnd 8: work the hat body pattern even.
Rnd 9: (k5, k2tog, k1, k2tog, k3, k2tog, k1, k2tog) 3 times -42 sts.
Rnd 10: *k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 21 sts.
Rnd 11: *yo, k2, passover; rep from * to last 3 sts, yo, k2tog, k1, passover. - 20 sts.
Rnd 12: *k2tog; rep from * to end of rnd - 10 sts.
Cut yarn leaving a 10 inches tail. Tread a big eye needle with the yarn end and pass the needle and tread through the last 10 sts. Pull it tight. I like to do it twice to make sure it is secure. Bring the needle inside the hat and weave the yarn behind sts. Cut yarn.
Finishing the hat brim by folding the brim in half where the yo rnd is. It should form a nice little picots. Sew seam at the base of the hat body.
Enjoy!
