Size: Teen/Adult – stretches to fit – approx. 22” circumference at brim
Materials:
- 200 yds. worsted wt. wool or wool-blend yarn
- Size 6 (4.25 mm) circular needle (16” length)
- Size 10 (6 mm) circular needle (16” length) and set of 4 (or 5) size 10 dpns
- or size to achieve gauge
- Tapestry needle
Gauge: 16 sts & 20 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 10 needle

Pattern notes: Hat is worked circularly from ribbed lower edge to crown.
Special stitches:
Increase (inc): knit into front & back of same stitch.
Make Bobble (MB): K in front, back & front of same st, turn, p3, turn, k3, turn, p3, turn, sl 1, k2tog, psso.
Hat
With smaller circular needle, cast on 88 sts loosely. Join for circular knitting, being careful that stitches are not twisted on needle. Place marker to note beg of rnds.
Rnds 1-4: Knit.
Rnds 5-11: *K3, P5, rep from * around.
Rnd 12 (inc rnd): *Increase (by knitting into front & back of next st), k1, inc, p5, rep from * around (110 sts)
Rnd 13: *K5, p5, rep from * around.
Rnd 14 (inc rnd): *Inc, k3, inc, p5, rep from * around (132 sts)
Rnd 15: *K7, p5, rep from * around.
Rnd 16 (inc rnd): *Inc, k5, inc, p 5, rep from * around (154 sts)
Change to larger circular needle.
Rnds 17-21: *K9, p5, rep from * around.
Rnd 22 (bobble rnd): *K4, MB, k4, p5, rep from * around.
Rnds 23-27: *K9, p5, rep from * around.
Begin decreases:
Rnd 28 (dec rnd): *SSK, k5, k2tog, p5, rep from * around (132 sts)
Rnds 29-31: *K7, p5, rep from * around.
Rnd 32 (dec rnd): *SSK, k3, k2tog, p5, rep from * around (110 sts)

(Note: change to dpns when sts no longer fit comfortably on circular needle)

Rnds 43-47: *K1, p3, rep from * around.
Rnd 48 (dec rnd): *K1, p3tog, rep from * around (22 sts)
Rnd 49 (dec rnd): *K2tog, rep from * around (11 sts)
Rnd 50 (dec rnd): K1, *K2tog, rep from * around (6 sts)
Rnd 51 (dec rnd): K2 tog three times (3 sts)
Make top bobble: K3, turn, p3, turn, k3, turn, p3, turn, sl 1, k2tog, psso.
Cut yarn, leaving 8” tail. Sew bobble securely to top of hat and weave in all ends.
For optional beret style: Dampen hat, gently stretch top portion over a dinner plate and leave to dry.
