Caron Simply Soft (6 oz/170 g; 288 yds/315 m)
Contrast A Bone (9703) 3 balls
Contrast B Sage (9705) 1 ball
Contrast C Robins Egg (9780) 1 ball
Contrast D Persimmon (9754) 1 ball
Size U.S. 8 (5 mm) knitting needles.
Size U.S. 8 (5 mm) circular knitting needle 29" [75 cm] long or size needed to obtain gauge.
Pair of size U.S. 8 (5 mm) double-pointed knitting needles for l-cord edging.
GAUGE
17 sts and 32 rows = 4" [10 cm] in garter st.
Pinwheel Motif = Approx 12" [30.5 cm] square
INSTRUCTIONS
Pinwheel Motif
With Color 1, cast on 25 sts.
Triangle 1
1 st and 2nd rows: Knit.
3rd row: (RS). K24. W&T.
4th and alt rows: Knit.
5th row: K23. W&T.
7th row: K22. W&T.
Cont as established, knitting 1 less st every RS row, until 24 sts have been wrapped, ending on a WS row.
Break Color 1. Do not cast off.
Triangle 2
With Color 2, cont as follows:
1st row: K1. W&T (st will have 2 wraps).
2nd and alt rows: Knit.
3rd row: K1. Pick up Color 2 wrap of next st and place on left-hand needle. Knit wrap tog with next st. W&T.
5th row: K2. Pick up Color 2 wrap of next st and place on left-hand needle. Knit wrap tog with next st. W&T.
Cont as established, knitting 1 more st every RS row, until 24 sts have been wrapped and ending on a WS row.
Break Color 2. Do not cast off.
Triangles 3 to 8
Work as given for Triangles 1 and 2 - 3 times more. Cast off. Sew cast on and cast off edges tog.
Blanket
Make 3 Pinwheel Motifs with B as Color 1 and A as Color 2.
Make 4 Pinwheel Motifs with C as Color 1 and A as Color 2.
Make 2 Pinwheel Motifs with D as Color 1 and A as Color 2.
Sew Motifs tog as shown in Assembly Diagram.
Top and Bottom Border: With RS facing, A and circular needle, pick up and knit 152 sts across top edge of Blanket. Knit 18 rows (garter st). Cast off. Rep for Bottom Border.
Side Borders: With RS facing, A and circular needle, pick up and knit 168 sts across right side edge of Blanket. Knit 18 rows (garter st). Cast off. Rep for left side edge.
Applied l-cord Border
With D and pair of double-pointed needles, cast on 3 sts onto right-hand needle. With RS facing and using left- hand needle, *pick up and knit 1 st from edge of Blanket. Slide 4 sts over to right end of needle. Bring yarn to back of work, K2. K2togtbl. Rep from * around all edges of Blanket. When you reach the end, S11. K2tog. psso. Sew beg and end of applied l-cord tog.
