Materials:

  • Suggested yarn:Alize Burcum Classic, (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz (100 g), 230 yards (210 m), in the following colors and quantities: rose berry 170 (1skein), red 106 (1 skein) and cream 01 (1skein).
  • Circular knitting needles, 16" (40 cm) long, sizes US 8 (5 mm).
  • Double pointed needles (DPNs) set, size US 8 (5 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.
  • Ring stitch marker.

Sizes and measurements:

  • Size S (for kids): head circumference = 18" (46 cm), height = 8" (20 cm).
  • Size M: head circumference = 20" (51 cm), height = 8.5" (21.5 cm).
  • Size L (for teens and adults): head circumference = 22" (56 cm), height = 9" (23 cm).

Gauge: 18 sts and 20 rounds = 4"x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in stockinette stitch.

Yardage:

  • Size S: 108 - 110 yards (100- 102 m), approx.
  • Size M: 128- 130 yards (118- 120 m), approx.
  • Size L: 148- 150 yards (135- 137 m), approx.


Knitting Terms:

  • st: stitch.
  • sts: stitches.
  • sl st: slip stitch.
  • k: knit.
  • p: purl.
  • k2tog: knit two stitches together.
  • ssk: slip st, slip st, knit the 2 slipped sts through back loops.

Instructions:

With rose berry yarn, cast on 72 (84, 96) sts. Join in the round. Don't know how to join in the round?

Put a ring stitch marker at the beginning of rounds, work as follows:

Rib round: k 1, p 1, repeat to end.

Repeat the rib round ten (twelve, twelve) more times, then work as follows:

Rounds 1-2: (k 1, p 1) twice, k 2, (k 1, p 1) three times, repeat to end.

Rounds 3-4: k 1, p 1, k 6, (k 1, p 1) twice, repeat to end.

Round 5: k 11, p 1, repeat to end.

Bind on red and cream yarns and work the hearts chart. Cut the red and cream yarns, then repeat round 5 once, rounds 3-4 once, rounds 1-2 once. Work rib round 0 (once, twice).

Decreasing rounds:

Round 1: (k 1, p 1) five times, ssk, repeat to end. [66 (77, 88)] sts

Rounds 2-3: knit the k sts and purl the p sts.

Round 4: (k 1, p 1) four times, k2tog, k 1, repeat to end. [60 (70, 80)] sts

Rounds 5-6: repeat round 2.

Round 7: (k 1, p 1) three times, k2tog, k 2, repeat to end. [54 (63, 72)] sts

Note: change to DPNs when needed.

Rounds 8-9: repeat round 2.

Round 10: (k 1, p 1) twice, k2tog, k 3, repeat to end. [48 (56, 64)] sts

Round 11: repeat round 2.

Round 12: k 1, p 1, k2tog, k 4, repeat to end. [42 (49, 56)] sts

Round 13: repeat round 2.

Round 14: k2tog, k 5, repeat to end. [36 (42, 48)] sts

Round 15: k to end.

Round 16: k2tog, repeat to end. [18 (21, 24)] sts

Round 17: k to end.

Round 18: k2tog, repeat to the last st for all sizes (K the last st for Size M). [9 (11, 12)] sts

Cut yarn, leaving a 6" (15 cm) long yarn tail, pull it through all sts and tighten together. Weave in loose ends.
