Needles: US 8 (5.00 mm) straight and circular OR SIZE NEEDED TO OBTAIN GAUGE

Gauge: 14 sts x 20 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm)

Two-Tone Pattern

Multiple of 4 sts plus 3. Colors A and B.
Rows 1 and 2 - with color A, knit.
Row 3 - with color B, k1, *sl1 with yarn in back, k3; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl1, k1
Row 4 - with color B, p1, * sl1 with yarn in front, p3; rep from * to last 2 sts, sl1, p1
Rows 5 and 6 - with color A, knit
Row 7- with color B, k3, *sl1 with yarn in back, k3; rep from *
Row 8 - with color B, p3, * sl1 with yarn in front, p3; rep from *

Pattern 1:1 Ribbing
Row 1: *k1, p1 repeat from * across

Directions


Back:
Using provisional cast on method cast on 39 (45, 51, 57, 63, 69, 75) sts. on straight needles.
Work Two-Tone pattern for 62 (64, 66, 68, 70, 72, 74) rows, increase for 1 st at the beginning of the row (after the first st) and 1 st at the end of the row (before the last st) in every 4th row (rows 1 and 5 of the pattern) starting from row 5. You have to increase by 20 (22, 24, 24, 24, 26, 28) sts total, so by the 62 (64, 66, 68, 70, 72, 74)th row you'll have 59 (67, 75, 81, 87, 95, 103) sts on the needles. Transfer the work to the circular needles.


Left Front:
Starting at the upper left corner of the back, unravel 13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25) sts of the waste thread, transfer the sts to a straight needle from left to right (the working piece is with the right side to you).
Work Two-Tone pattern for 86 (88, 90, 92, 94, 96, 98) rows starting from row (yarn B), in rows 31 (color A) 39, 47, 55, 63, 71, 79 increase for one st at the beginning and at the end of the row.
You'll have 27 (29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39) sts at the end.
Transfer the sts to the circular needles.

Right Front:
Unravel the next 13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25) sts of the back and transfer them to the auxiliary yarn.
Unravel the remaining 13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25) sts and transfer them to a straight needle from left to right (the working piece is right side towards you).
Work from the upper right corner with color B.
Work as the left front.

Body of the Vest
Start from the left front (the working piece is right side towards you), color A. Knit 27 (29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39) sts of the left front, using single cast on method, cast on 8 (9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16) sts for the underarm, knit 59 (67, 75, 81, 87, 95, 103) sts of the back, cast on 8 (9, 10, 12, 14, 15, 16) sts for the underarm, knit 27 (29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39) sts of the right front.
Work Two-Tone pattern for 78 (82, 86, 90, 94, 98, 102) rows or to desired length.

Work 10 rows of ribbing with color A. Bind off.

Finishing
Starting from the lower corner of the right front, pick up sts along the right front edge on circular needles, transfer 13 (15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 25) sts of the back to the needles, pick up sts along the the left front edge (the working piece is with the right side to you).
Work 3 rows of 1x1 ribbing.
Row 4: make 5 buttonholes as follows: *10 sts of ribbing, bind off 2 sts*, rep from * 5 times; work ribbing to the end of the row.
Row 5: work ribbing, cast on 2 sts over the bound sts.
Work ribbing for 2 more rows. Bind off.

Pick up 94 sts along the armhole and work 1x1 ribbing for 7 rounds. Bind off.

Sew on 5 buttons.
