Yarn – Knitca Woolly Warmth yarn, 100% wool, 100m / 110ds in a 50g / 1.7oz ball: 1 ball of #0128 Maize, 1 ball of #1655 Tangelo and 1 ball of #0002 Black.
Needles – 4mm (US6) knitting needles
Crochet hook – 4mm (G-6)
Notions – wool needle for weaving in ends
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Length – 20cm / 8”, Width – 9cm / 3.5”
GAUGE
18.5 sts and 24.5 rows = 4” / 10cm in stockinette stitch
SPECIAL TERMS AND ABBREVIATIONS
SSK – slip 2 stitches separately knitwise, return them back to the left needle and knit them together through the back loop.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. With maize colour cast on 36 stitches.
2. Work in stockinette stitch (knit all stitches in one row, and purl all stitches in the next row) in the colour pattern as follows:
Rows 1-4: maize
Rows 5-6: tangelo
Rows 7-8: maize
Rows 9-10: black
Rows 11-14: tangelo
Rows 15-16: black
Rows 17-18: maize
Rows 19-20: tangelo
Rows 21-22: maize
Rows 23-26: black
Rows 27-28: maize
Rows 29-44: repeat rows 5-20
Rows 45-48: maize
3. Shape the top part of the eyeglass case:
Row 49: SSK, knit 14 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, SSK, knit 14 stitches, knit 2 stitches together
Then finish 2 sides separately:
Row 50: SSK, purl 12 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, turn your work
Row 51: SSK, knit 10 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, turn your work
Row 52: SSK, purl 8 stitches, knit 2 stitches together, turn your work
Row 53: bind off remaining 10 stitches.
4. Weave in loose ends.
5. Make a seam at the side and the bottom of the eyeglass case:
With knit side of the fabric facing to you, align the sides of the piece and stitch the sides and bottom of the eyeglass case together using mattress stitch.
6. With yarn in tangelo colour finish the top of the eyeglass case using backwards crochet stitch (crab stitch).
