Knitted Baby Booties

Knitting materials and tools:
Circular or straight knitting needles 3.5 mm (US 4) and 3 mm (UK 11) for the ruffles.
Caron, Simply Soft – 100% acrylic. Color A – green, Color B – yellow, Color C – white.
Weight Category – (4) Meduim. Quantity – 50-60 grams.
Use a 3 mm crochet hook for the tie, or alternatively, knit an i-cord.
Knit baby booties size:
0-6 months – 30 sts
6-12 months – 36 sts
Gauge: 17 stitches = 4 inches in stockinette
Common abbreviations of knitting stitches:
k – knit
k2tog – knit two together
p – purl
pm – place marker
yo – yarn over
sel s – selvage stitch: always slip the first stitch knitwise, work to the last stitch, purl the last stitch.
k3tog – knit three together: Slip two stitch to the right needle knitwise, knit in the next stitch and drop this stitch off the left needle, insert the left needle into the two slipped stitches, pass them over the knit stitch and it’s done.
Knit baby booties pattern:
Color A:
Cast on 30 (36) stitches. Place stitch markers in the following order (0-6 months): 2 sts, pm, 12 sts, pm, 2 sts, pm, 12 sts, pm, 2 sts. For the size 6-12 months: 2 sts, pm, 15 sts, pm, 2 sts, pm, 15 sts, pm, 2 sts.
The pattern is written for the smaller size, but by starting with the initial number of stitches and following the pattern, you can knit larger size booties.
Rows 1-2: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 3: sel s, k1, yo, k12, yo, k2, yo, k12, yo, k1, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. Knit yo stitch through the back loop. (34 sts)
Row 5: sel s, k2, yo, k12, yo, k4, yo, k12, yo, k2, sel s.
Row 6: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. (38 sts)
Row 7: sel s, k3, yo, k12, yo, k6, yo, k12, yo, k3, sel s.
Row 8: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. (42 sts)
Row 9: sel s, k4, yo, k12, yo, k8, yo, k12, yo, k4, sel s.
Row 10: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. (46 sts)
Rows 11-18: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. Remove all stitch markers. At this point the piece measures 4.5 cm.
Place stitch markers in the following order (0-6 months): 12 sts, pm, 22 sts, pm, 12 sts. For the size 6-12 months: 15 sts, pm, 22 sts, pm, 15 sts. Cut the yarn leaving at least 25 cm tail.
Color B:
When changing the yarn color, in the next row, knit the first stitch instead of slipping it.
Rows 19, 21, 23: sel s, k11, [p1, k1] – repeat 11 times, k11, sel s.
Rows 20, 22, 24: sel s, k11, [slip next stitch holding working yarn in front, k1] – repeat 11 times, k11, sel s.
Row 25: sel s, k11, [k2tog] – 11 times, k11, sel s.
Row 26: sel s, k11, p11, k11, sel s. (35 sts)
Row 27: sel s, k11, [k2tog] – 5 times, k12, sel s.
Row 28: sel s, k11, p6, k11, sel s. (30 sts)
Row 29: sel s, k11, [k2tog] – 3 times, k11, sel s.
Row 30: sel s, k11, p3, k11, sel s. (27 sts)
Row 31: sel s, k11, k3tog, k11, sel s.
Row 32: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. (25 sts) Remove all stitch markers.
Create eyelets for threading the tie later:
Row 33: sel s, [yo, k2tog] – repeat 11 times, k1, sel s.
Row 34: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. Knit yo stitch through the front loop.
Rows 35-50: sel s, knit all sts, sel s. Knit more rows if needed. The part after the eyelets measures 5 cm.
Bind off all stitches using the elastic method:
1. Slip the first stitch.
2. Yarn over (yo).
3. Knit one stitch.
4. Pass both the yarn over and the previous stitch over the knitted stitch.
5. Repeat steps 2-4 until the end of the row.
Cut the yarn leaving a tail about 50 cm.
Ruffles (Color A):
Place the bootie upside down. Using 3 mm knitting needles, locate the 4th garter stitch row from the row with eyelets. Pick up 25 stitches along this row. Then, turn.
Row 1: sel s, [yo, p1] – 23 times, sel s.
Row 2: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s. Knit yo stitch through the back loop.
Row 3: sel s, [yo, p1] – 46 times, sel s.
Row 4: sel s, knit all stitches, sel s.
Row 5: sel s, [yo, p1] – 92 times, sel s.
Bind of all stitches. When binding off, knit the yo stitches through the back loops. Cut the yarn, leaving a 10 cm tail. Use this tail to seam the ruffle at the end.
Using a yarn needle and the horizontal invisible method, seam the back part of the booties. Change yarn color while seaming different parts. Seam the foot part in the same manner. Weave in ends.
Using a 3 mm crochet hook, crochet a chain approximately 60-70 cm long and thread it through the eyelets. If you prefer not to use a crochet hook, knit an i-cord for the ties. Repeat the process for the second sock.
