Knitted Ruffled Lace Christmas Stockings

The Knitted Ruffled Lace Christmas Stockings are a delicate and elegant holiday decoration that will add a touch of vintage charm to your festive decor! Size: Approx. 12.5” long x 6” wide

Materials:

  • Pisgah Yarn & Dyeing Co., Inc Article 930H Peaches & CrèmeTM100% cotton worsted wt. (56.7 g. (2 oz.) balls, 122 yds./ball):
  • Olive Green – 1 ball (Main Color (MC))
  • White – 1 ball (Color A)
  • Deep Red – 1 ball (Color B)
  • Gold – 1 ball (Color C)
  • Size 6 (4.25 mm) circular needle (16” length), or size needed to achieve gauge
  • Set of four Size 6 (4.25 mm) double-pointed needles (dpns)
  • Size G crochet hook
  • Stitch markers
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge: 20 sts & 24 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 6 needle

Pattern notes: Stocking is worked in the circular technique, knit in the round from top cuff to heel flap, changing from circular needle to dpn’s for heel, gusset, foot and toe. Crocheted ruffle trim is applied after knitting is completed.

Eyelet Lace Pattern (worked over a multiple of 5 sts)

(Note: When directed to slip stitches in eyelet lace pattern, slip them purlwise.)

Rnd 1: *(K2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p5, rep from * around.

Rnds 2-4: *K5, p5, rep from * around.

Follow specific instructions below for working lace pattern into body of stocking.

Special stitches:

SSK (slip slip knit): slip 2 sts from left needle, one at a time knitwise, then insert tip of left needle through front of these 2 sts from left to right and knit them together from this position.

Stocking

With circular needle and Color A, CO 50. Join for circular knitting, being careful that sts are not twisted on the needle. Place marker to note beg of rnds.

Ribbed Cuff:

Rnd 1: *K1, p1, rep from * around (50 sts)

Rnds 2-8: Rep Rnd 1.

Rnd 9: K around. At end of Rnd 9, join MC. Cut Col A leaving 6” tail for weaving in later.

Rnd 10: Continuing with MC, K around.

Rnd 11 (to be used later for ruffle trim): P around.

Rnd 12: K around.

Begin eyelet lace patt:

Rnd 13: P3, *(K2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p5, rep from * around, ending last rep p2.

Rnds 14-16: P3, *K5, p5, rep from * around, ending last rep p2

Rnds 17-44: Rep Rnds 13-16 seven times (8 reps of eyelet lace patt completed)

Rnd 45: P3, *(K2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p5, rep from * around, ending last rep p2.

(NOTE: Change to dpns when sts no longer fit comfortably on circular needle.)

Rnd 46 (dec rnd): P1, p2tog, *K5, p2tog, p1, p2tog, rep from * around, ending last rep p2tog (40 sts)

Rnds 47-48: P2, *K5, p3, rep from * around, ending last rep p1.

Rnd 49: P2, *(K2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p3, rep from * around, ending last rep p1.

Rnds 50-52: P2, *K5, p3, rep from * around, ending last rep p1.

Rnd 53: P2, *(K2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p3, rep from * around, ending last rep p1

Rnds 54-55: P2, *K5, p3, rep from * around, ending last rep p1.

Divide for heel:

Preparatory row (to be used later for ruffle trim): Starting at marker at beg of rnd, with dpn and MC, k9, turn, k9, remove marker, k8, turn (17 sts on heel flap). Leave rem 23 sts (instep sts) on holder or dpn to be worked later.

Heel flap:

Row 1 (RS): Attach Col A, K17, turn. Cut MC, leaving 6” tail for weaving in later.

Row 2 (WS): Sl 1, p16, turn.

Row 3 (RS): Sl 1, k16, turn.

Rows 4-15: Rep Rows 2-3.

Row 16 (WS): Sl 1, p16, turn.

Turn heel:

Row 17 (RS): Sl 1, k8, k2tog, k1, turn.

Row 18 (WS): Sl 1, p2, p2tog, p1, turn.

Row 19: Sl 1, k3, k2tog, k1, turn.

Row 20: Sl 1, p4, p2tog, p1, turn.

Row 21: Sl 1, k5, k2tog, k1, turn.

Row 22: Sl 1, p6, p2tog, p1, turn.

Row 23: Sl 1, k7, k2tog, turn.

Row 24: Sl 1, p7, p2tog, turn.

Set up for gusset as follows:

With first dpn (needle 1) & Col A, k4 (to get to center of heel flap), drop Col A, join MC & dec by knitting next 2 sts tog, k3, pick up 9 sts along left side of heel flap.

With second dpn (needle 2), p1, k5, p3, k5, p3, k5, p1.

With third dpn (needle 3), pick up 9 sts along right side of heel flap, k across last 4 sts of rnd, ending at center of heel (49 sts). Cut Col A leaving 6” tail for weaving in later.

Work now proceeds in rnds beginning at center of heel.

Continue with MC and work as follows:

Rnd 1 (dec rnd):

On ndl 1, k10, k2tog, k1.

On ndl 2, p1, k5, p3, k5, p3, k5, p1.

On ndl 3, k1, ssk, k10.

Rnd 2:

On ndl 1, K.

On ndl 2, p1, [(k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p3] twice, (k2tog, yo, k1, yo, sl 1, k1, psso), p1.

On ndl 3, K.

Rnd 3 (dec rnd):

On ndl 1, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

On ndl 2, p1, (k5, p3) twice, k5, p1.

On ndl 3, k1, ssk, k to end of rnd.

Rnd 4:

On ndl 1, K.

On ndl 2, p1, (k5, p3) twice, k5, p1.

Foot:

Rnd 1:

On ndl 1, K.

On ndl 2, p1, work in eyelet lace patt as established to last st, p1.

On ndl 3, K.

Rep Rnd 1 until foot measures 5” from back of heel.

Begin toe:

Rnd 1 (to be used later for ruffle trim): With MC, P around.

Rnd 2: Drop MC, attach Col A, K around.

Move 2 sts from end of ndl 2 on to ndl 1. Move 2 sts from other end of ndl 2 on to ndl 3 (10 sts on ndl 1, 19 sts on ndl 2, 10 sts on ndl 3 - 39 sts)

Rnd 3 (inc rnd):

On ndl 1, k10.

On ndl 2, k9, inc in next st by knitting in front & back of st, k9.

On ndl 3, k10 (10 sts on ndl 1, 20 sts on ndl 2, 10 sts on ndl 3 - 40 sts)

Rnd 4 (dec rnd):

On ndl 1, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

On ndl 2, k1, ssk, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1.

On ndl 3, k1, ssk, k to end of rnd.

Rnd 5: K around.

Rep Rnds 4-5 until 4 sts rem on ndl 1, 8 sts on ndl 2, 4 sts on ndl 3 (16 sts). Knit 4 sts from ndl 1 on to ndl 3.

Weave toe:

Holding sts on ndl 2 tog with sts on ndl 3, weave sts tog using Kitchener stitch.

Ruffle edging:

Cuff trim:

Holding stocking with ribbed cuff at top, with crochet hook attach Col B to center back st on Rnd 11, inserting hook from bottom to top through purl bump.

Ruffle round: Ch 3, 2 dc in same purl bump, sk next purl bump, *sc in next purl bump, ch 3, 2 dc in same purl bump, sk next purl bump, rep from * around, join with sl st to base of beg ch-3. Fasten off Col B.

Attach Col C in next skipped purl bump at center back of stocking and rep Ruffle round, skipping the purl bumps that have already been worked in. Fasten off Col C.

Heel trim:

Working across purl row at top of heel flap, rep upper stocking trim instructions.

Toe trim:

Holding stocking with point of toe at top & working along purl round at beginning of toe section, repeat upper stocking trim instructions.

Weave in all tails.

Hanging loop:

With crochet hook and MC, leaving 8” tail for sewing, ch 18, sl st in 2nd ch from hk and in ea ch across. Pull tail from one end of ch through other end of ch to form loop. Feed tails through to inside top of stocking at center back point below ribbed cuff and ruffle, tie ends securely inside and weave in tails.
