Size: Newborn to 3 mos. – stretches to 14” circumference, 5” high

Materials:

Lightweight (DK-weight) yarn (sample shown in Plymouth Yarns “Wildflower” – 51% cotton/49% acrylic, 136 yds. per 50 g. ball):

50 yds. Main Color (MC)(Coral)

10 yds. Color A (Green)

5 yds. Color B (White)

Size 6 (4.25 mm) circular needle (16” length) or set of 4 (or 5) size 6 (4.25 mm) double-pointed needles – or size needed to achieve gauge

Stitch marker

Tapestry needle

14” length of ¼” satin ribbon

Gauge: 22 sts & 28 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 6 (4.25 mm) needle

Terms/Abbreviations: beginning (beg), bind off (BO), cast on (CO), decrease (dec), increase (inc), knit (k), knit two together (K2tog), purl (p), remaining (rem), repeat (rep), slip (sl), stitch (st), stockinette stitch (st st)

Pattern notes:

Hat is worked in the round from lower edge to top.

At each color change, drop old color over new color and pick up new strand from under old dropped strand to avoid holes.

Do not cut colors until instructed to do so. Carry unused strands loosely up inside of hat.

With circular needle and MC, CO 60. Join for knitting in the round, being careful that stitches are not twisted. Place marker to note beginning of rounds.

Rnds 1-3: With MC, K.

At end of Rnd 3, drop MC, join Color A.

Rnd 4: With Color A, k.

Rnds 5-7: *K2, p2, rep from * around.

Rnd 8: K. At end of rnd, drop Color A, pick up MC.

Rnds 9-11: With MC, k. At end of Rnd 11, drop MC, join Color B.

Rnds 12-13: With Color B, k. At end of Rnd 13, drop Color B, pick up Color A.

Rnd 14: With Color A, k. At end of rnd, drop Color A, pick up MC.

Rnd 15: With MC, k.

Cut Colors A and B, leaving 6” tails to weave in later. Continue rest of hat with MC.

Rnd 16: *K3, p3, rep from * around.

Continue in K3, p3 rib until hat measures 4” from cast-on edge.

Next rnd (eyelet rnd): *K1, yo, k1, yo, k1, p3, rep from * around.

Next rnd: *K5, p3, rep from * around.

Rep last rnd 4 times. Bind off and weave in all tails.

Weave ribbon through eyelet rnd and tie in a bow as shown, drawing top of hat closed. Trim ribbon ends with diagonal cut.
