- Size 4 (3.5 mm) knitting needles, or size needed to achieve gauge

Gauge: 23 sts & 33 rows = 4” in stockinette stitch on size 4 (3.5 mm) needle
Pattern notes:
Placemat is worked in one piece from lower border to top edge, in a sequence of alternating stockinette, twist stitch and yarnover rows, forming a decorative pattern.
Five stitches at each side of placemat are maintained in seed stitch to form side borders. If desired, place stitch markers between border stitches and central patterned area as a guide.
A row counter is useful for keeping track of rows in pattern.
