Notes

The structure of the scarf is as follows:

4 st garter | 4 st rib | 3 st garter | 18 st rib (cable braid) | 3 st garter | 4 st rib | 4 st garter

All rows are exactly the same on both sides, except for rows 3 and 11, which are the cabling rows.

Pattern

Cast on 40 st.

Row 1—2: K4, (K1, P1) twice, K3, (K1, P1) 9 times, K3, (K1, P1) twice, K4

Row 3: K4, (K1, P1) twice, K3; Cable—(K1, P1) 3 times, C12F; K3, (K1, P1) twice, K4

Row 4—10: K4, (K1, P1) twice, K3, (K1, P1) 9 times, K3, (K1, P1) twice, K4

Row 11: K4, (K1, P1) twice, K3; Cable—C12B, (K1, P1) 3 times; K3, (K1, P1) twice, K4

Row 12—16: K4, (K1, P1) twice, K3, (K1, P1) 9 times, K3, (K1, P1) twice, K4

Repeat these 16 rows for 56 inches, ending with row 13.

Bind off.

Fringe

Cut 60 strands, approximately 11 inches long. Use three strands for each tassel. Fold the strands in half, insert a large crochet hook through the scarf and hook the folded center point of the strands and pull through the scarf so they form a loop. Pull the ends of the strands through the loop and tighten.

In the cabled part of the scarf, attach one of the tassels through two layers of the scarf at the point where the cable braid ends overlap—that will tack down the end of the cable and keep it in place.
