Knitted Baby Bonnet

    Yarn: Knit Picks Stroll Fingering weight yarn, 50g. Color Dove Heather

    Hook: 5/ 3.75mm

    Notions: Tapestry needle

    Size: Top to chin 6 inches, front to back is 6 inches at widest point.

    Gauge: 12 k + 34 rows = 2 in.

    Stitches Used: knit (k), purl (p), RT (right twist), LT (left twist), sl st (sl st), k2tog (knit 2 stitches together), ssk (slip, slip, knit)

    Special Stitches:

    • Right Twist (RT): Knit 2 together keeping both stitches on the left needle, knit into the first stitch, then pull both stitches onto the right needle, stitch complete.
    • Left Twist (LT): Knit through the back loop of the 2nd st, keep the stitch on the left needle, knit in the first stitch, then pull both stitches onto the right needle, stitch complete.
    • 3 st i-cord
      Cast on 3 st onto a double point needle, {knit 3, push your stitches to the other end}, Repeat {to} pulling your stitches tight as you go.
    • I-cord Edging:

      Cast on 3 st onto one of your double point needles. With the wrong side facing up, insert the needle in the right hand side corner of the bonnet {pick up a new st. You should now have 4 st on the needle. Push the needle down so you are now working from the other end, k 2, k2tog through the back loops}

      Repeat {to} until you come to the other edge of the bonnet.

      Row 1 [RS]: p3, RT, p4, RT, LT, p4, LT, p12, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)

      Row 2 [WS]: k13, p2, k4, p, k2, p, k4, p2, k2, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)
      Row 3: p3, RT, p3, RT, p2, LT, p3, LT, p12, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)
      Row 4: k13, p2, k3, p, k4, p, k3, p2, k2, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)
      Row 5: p3, RT, p2, RT, p4, LT, p2, LT, p12, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)

      Row 6: k13, p2, k2, p, k6, p, k2, p2, k2, sl st with yarn facing back (32 sts)

      With front side facing up and working across the un-worked rows, sk 17 slipped stitches, insert needle into the side of the 18th row st, and bring up a loop, continue bringing up a loop through the next 17 sl stitches for a total of 18 loops on the needle.       Bonnet Ties


      Make a 3 loop i-cord for 30 rows, attach the i-cord with a stitch at the bottom of the bonnet with the front facing down, make an attached i-cord in each st across the bottom of the bonnet. Finish with a 3 loop i-cord for 30 rows.

      Finish off.

      Weave in your ends.
