Knitted Queen and Baby Bee

Materials for both

Pair of 3.25 (UK Size 10) knitting needles
Small quantity of black, yellow and white DK yarn
Small quantity of toy stuffing
Yarn needle

Queen Bee (knitted from back)

Using black, cast on 5 stitches

Row 1: Increase by knitting into the front and back of every stitch (10 sts)

Row 2: Increase by purling into the back and front of every stitch (20 sts)

Row 3: Join yellow. Knit

Row 4: Purl

Rows 5-14: Starting with black, repeat rows 3 & 4 a further 5 times alternating between yellow and black every 2 rows

Break off black yarn and continue in yellow only.

Row 15: Work in Stocking stitch for 6 rows

Row 16: K2 tog to end (10 sts)

Row 17: P2 tog to end (5 sts)

Break off yarn leaving enough thread to draw through remaining stitches with the yarn needle. Pull tightly & secure.

Wings for both Bees (make 2 alike)

Using white cast on 20 sts (Queen Bee) or 15 stitches (Baby Bee)

Break off yarn long enough to thread through remaining stitches. Pull tightly and secure.

Sew wings to top of bee just behind the first stripe a couple of stitches apart. Add features as required.

Baby Bee (knitted from back)

Using black, cast on 4 stitches

Row 1: Increase by knitting into the front and back of every stitch (8 sts)

Row 2: Increase by purling into the back and front of every stitch (16 sts)

Row 3: Join yellow, K

Row 4: Purl

Rows 5-10: Repeat rows 3 & 4 a further 3 times alternating between yellow and black every 2 rows

Break off black and continue in yellow only.

Row 15: Work in Stocking stitch for 4 rows

Row 16: K2 tog to end (8 sts)

Row 17: P2 tog to end (4 sts)

Break off yarn leaving enough thread to draw through remaining stitches with the yarn needle. Pull tightly & secure.

Make wings and finish as for Queen Bee.
