Knitted Tiger Stripe Hat

This stylish accessory is perfect for adding a touch of wild flair to any outfit, whether you're out for a winter stroll or hitting the slopes for some snowboarding fun. What You Need

  • US size 7 circular needles of a comfortable length - you’ll be knitting in the round
  • Four (4) US size 7 DPNs
  • worsted weight yarn in two colors - the colors will be referred to as MAIN and BACKGROUND (BG)
  • tapestry needle or crochet hook to weave in your ends
  • stitch marker (optional)

    • GAUGE: 4 sts/in will give you a nice, average adult, human-sized hat that is approximately 10” across and 9” tall

  • basic knitting ones
  • colorwork

    • Abbreviations
  • k: knit
  • k1p1: knit 1, purl 1
  • k2tog: knit 2 together 
  • CO: cast on

    • Directions to Follow

    THE BRIM

  • CO 96 sts in MAIN; this will also be the color of the stripes and the crown
  • Complete 7 rounds of k1p1 ribbing; more rounds makes for a longer brim
    • THE BODY
  • Begin working the chart (below) in MAIN and BG accordingly, beginning at the bottom right corner, repeat the chart 4 times around


    NOTE: for the wider sections of color, you’ll want to “catch” the unused color behind your work every few stitches

    THE CROWN
    • with MAIN, k in every st around; this is a good time to place a stitch marker to note the beginning of your rounds
    • k10, k2tog - repeat around (88 sts)
    • k around
    • k9, k2tog - repeat around (80 sts)
    • continue this same dec pattern and switch to DPNs when the circulars become uncomfortable
    • when there are 8 sts left, use a tapestry needle to close the hole and secure; weave in ends
