Knitted Cabled Wristers

Gauge1 stitches, 2 rows, 3 inches. stockinette stitch

  • Susan Bates® Knitting Needles: 5mm [US 8]
  • Cable Needle
  • Yarn Needle
  • Stitch Markers

GAUGE: 18 sts = 4” [10 cm]; 22 rows = 4” [10 cm] in Stockinette Stitch. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

Cabled Wristers Measure: 7” circumference x 11” length [18 cm x 28 cm].

PATTERN STITCHES
1x1 Rib
Row 1 (Right Side): *K1, P1; repeat from * to end.
Row 2: Knit the knit stitches, purl the purl stitches.
Repeat Rows 1-2 for 1x1 Rib.

Elongated Chain Cable Stitch (panel of 14 stitches)
Row 1 (Wrong Side) and all wrong side rows: K3, P8, K3.
Row 2: P3, slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold to back of work, K2, K2 from cable needle; slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and hold to front of work, K2, K2 from cable needle, P3.
Rows 4 and 6: P3, K8, P3.
Row 8: P3, slip 2 stitches to cable needle and hold to front of work, K2, K2 from cable needle; slip next 2 stitches to cable needle and hold to back of work, K2, K2 from cable needle, P3.
Rows 10 and 12: P3, K8, P3.
Repeat Rows 1-12 for Elongated Chain Cable Stitch.


CABLED WRISTERS
Right Hand
Cast on 34 stitches.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Knit.
Row 2: *K1, P1, repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 1x1 Rib until 6” [15 cm] from beginning, end on Right Side row.
Next Row: (Wrong Side): Set up pattern as follows: P3, K3, P8, K3, P17.
Next Row: (Right Side): Work Rows 2-12 from Elongated Chain Cable Stitch pattern; at same time, work both sides of center panel in Stockinette Stitch—17 stitches and 3 stitches.
Repeat Elongated Chain Cable Stitch pattern once more, rows 1-12.
Next Row: Work in 1x1 Rib for ¾” [2 cm], end on Right Side row.
Next Row: (Wrong Side): Knit.
Next Row: Bind off all stitches knitwise. Cut yarn leaving a 15” [38 cm] tail.

Left Hand
Cast on 34 stitches.
Row 1 (Wrong Side): Knit.
Row 2: *K1, P1, repeat from * across.
Repeat Rows 1 and 2 for 1x1 Rib until 6” [15 cm] from beginning, end on Right Side row.
Next Row: (Wrong Side): Set up pattern as follows: P17, K3, P8, K3, P3.
Next Row: (Right Side): Work both sides of center panel in Stockinette Stitch17 stitches and 3 stitches; at same time work Rows 2-12 from Elongated Chain Cable Stitch pattern.
Repeat Elongated Chain Cable Stitch pattern once more, rows 1-12.
Next Row: Work in 1x1 Rib for ¾” [2 cm], end on Right Side row.
Next Row: (Wrong Side): Knit.
Next Row: Bind off all stitches knitwise. Cut yarn leaving a 15” [38 cm] tail.


FINISHING

Measure 2½ - 3” [6 cm - 8 cm] down from cast-on edge for thumb opening, place marker. Measure 1” [2.5 cm] from thumb opening and place second marker. With yarn needle and 15” [38 cm] tail, sew side seam to marker leaving a 1” [ 2.5 cm] opening for thumb, then sew remaining 2½ - 3” [6 cm - 8 cm], tie off and weave in ends.
