Approx: 27cm (10.75in) wide x 19cm (7.5in) high

YOU WILL NEED

  • Rowan Cocoon, 80% Merino wool, 20% mohair (115m per 100g)
  • 2 x 100g balls in 816 Kiwi or 813 Seascape (A)
  • 1 x 100q ball in 825 Clay (B)
  • 1 pair of 10 mm knitting needles
  • Yarn needle
  • 50 x 28cm (19.75 x 11 in) lining fabric
  • Sewing needle
  • Sewing thread to match fabric
  • 49 x 26cm (19.25 x 10.25in) stiff facing fabric
  • Button or tie for closure

Note: Yarn amounts given are based on average requirements and are approximate.

TENSION

9 sts and 12 rows to 10cm (4in) over st st using 10mm needles

Use larger or smaller needles if necessary to obtain correct tension.

ABBREVIATIONS

sl1 wyb = slip 1 st purlwise with yarn at back

sl1 wyf = slip 1 st purlwise with yarn at front

CLUTCH BAG

Work with 2 strands of yarn throughout the pattern.

Using A, cast on 30 sts.

Row 1: *K1, sl1 wyf; rep from * to end.

Row 2: *P1, sl1 wyb; rep from * to end.

Rep Rows 1 to 2 until work measures approx 38cm (15in).

Change to B.

Next row: *K1, sl1 wyf; rep from * to end.

Next row: *P1, sl1 wyb; rep from * to end.

Change to A.

Next row: *K1, sl1 wyf; rep from * to end.

Next row: *P1, sl1 wyb; rep from * to end. Repeat the last 4 rows, 4 more times.

Change to B.

Next row: (K1, sl1 wyf) 7 times, cast off 2 sts, sl1 wyf, *k1, sl1 wyf; rep from * to end (28 sts).

Next row: (P1, sl1 wyb) 7 times, (k1, p1, k1) into the next st, sl1 wyb, *p1, sl1 wyb; rep from * to end (30 sts).

TO FINISH OFF

Weave in any loose ends.

Sew a 1cm hem on each long side and a 2cm hem on each short side of the lining fabric.

With WS facing sew lining fabric to bag enclosing the stiff facing fabric.

Fold the bottom edge of the bag up to meet the top of the single colour section and sew sides.

Fold the flap over the front and attach button to bag to match buttonhole.
