Instructions:

Sizes: S/M (L/XL)

  • Shoulder Width: 100 (110) cm
  • Length: 38 (38) cm

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn (96% alpaca wool, 4% nylon; 50 g/110 m) — 3 (3) skeins of grey melange
  • Circular knitting needles No. 7, 40 and 60 cm long
  • Auxiliary needle for cables No. 7
  • 1 stitch marker

Knitting Patterns for the Snood:

  • Stockinette Stitch: In circular rows, always knit stitches.

Knitting Gauge: 14 stitches x 19 rows = 10 x 10 cm, knitted on circular needles No. 7.

Snood Knitting Instructions:

1. Casting On: Using circular needles No. 7 and double yarn, cast on 144 (156) stitches. Important: Do not pull the yarn tight. Cut one strand of yarn. Knit 5 rows in stockinette stitch back and forth.

2. Circular Knitting: Continue knitting in the round alternating stockinette stitch and cable pattern:

  • 1 purl, 8 knit (= cable), 1 purl, 5 (7) knit, 1 purl, 8 knit (= cable), 1 purl, repeat from * to * 6 times, excluding the last purl stitch.

3. Placing Markers: Attach 1 marker on each side of the work: to the 1st purl stitch of the row and to the purl stitch after the 6th cable.

4. Knitting the Cables: Knit 3 rows straight and cross the stitches in the cables in the next row:

  • Odd-numbered cables: Place 4 stitches on an auxiliary needle in front of the work, knit the next 4 stitches, then knit the stitches from the auxiliary needle.
  • Even-numbered cables: Place 4 stitches on an auxiliary needle behind the work, knit the next 4 stitches, then knit the stitches from the auxiliary needle. Repeat these cables in every 6th row until the end of the work.

5. Decreases Between Cables:

In the 10th (12th) row after the knit rows, make decreases on the stockinette sections between the cables:

  • 1 purl, 8 knit, 1 purl, knit 2 together, 1 (3) knit, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, then pass the slipped stitch over, 1 purl, 8 knit, 1 purl, repeat from * to * 6 times, excluding the last purl stitch.

In the 16th (18th) row:

  • 1 purl, 8 knit, 1 purl, slip 1 stitch, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over (knit 2 together, 1 knit, slip 1 stitch, knit 1, then pass the slipped stitch over), 1 purl, 8 knit, 1 purl, repeat from * to * 6 times, excluding the last purl stitch.

In the 20th (22nd) row:

  • 1 purl, 8 knit, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over (1 purl, slip 1 stitch, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over, 1 purl), 8 knit, 1 purl, repeat from * to * 6 times, excluding the last purl stitch.

6. Finishing for Size S/M: Knit straight, making a total of 11 cable crossings + 4 rows.

7. Finishing for Size L/XL:

In the 24th row:

  • 1 purl, 8 knit, slip 1 stitch as if to purl, knit 2 together and pass the slipped stitch over, 8 knit, 1 purl, repeat from * to * 6 times, excluding the last purl stitch. Knit straight, making a total of 11 cable crossings + 4 rows.

8. Final Rows: Knit 5 rows in stockinette stitch back and forth.

9. Binding Off: Bind off stitches with double yarn from the wrong side.

Finishing:

  • Secure the ends of the yarn.
  • Gently steam the finished piece.
